A spray tanning equipment is also sometimes called tanning bed, sunbed, or sun tanning booth or bed. It is a device that gives off UV beams used in the creation of cosmetic tans on the body. The ultraviolet rays can be of either grade B or A. Grade A is employed to a maximum of 97 percent. Grade B gets used to a limit of 3 percent with margin error of positive or negative three percent.

Regular tanning devices integrate many fluorescent lamps that contain phosphor blends. These lamps are designed to emit ultraviolet rays in a spectrum same as that of the sun. Small, residential devices normally have 12 to 28 lights of 100 watts each while the bigger models used in tanning salons might consist of up to 60 lights. Each lamp gives off 100 to 200 watts of power.

There also exists beds known as high pressure, which generate UV grade A and some grade B using filters, reflector systems, and specialized quartz lamps. Their use is however limited because of their high cost. The major difference between booths and beds is that in beds, people lie down while in booths they stand upright during the process. Booths also have a higher power output compared to beds.

There are some adverse effects associated with the use of these devices. The effects come about due to over exposure to the ultraviolet radiation. The major effects include skin cancer, premature aging, suppression of the human immune system, mutation, and cataracts among others. Due to these, the world health organization discourages the use of the equipment for cosmetic purposes. The UVA beams used in most devices is capable of causing the most lethal form of skin cancer called melanoma.

As a safety precaution, one ought to always wear goggles in order to evade a condition called arc eye commonly known as snow blindness. Models, which include timers, help in evading over exposure to UV beams. This means that the user should be careful enough to evacuate the equipment the time reaches. Users who fall asleep while inside the machine always sustain serious injuries. This is unsafe and may result in multiple problems.

There is research that indicates that the appliances can become addictive. Users always want to continue using them even if they are aware of the risk. This normally occurs to people who own residential systems in their homes and utilize them whenever they feel like without any advisement.

The equipment should be maintained properly to keep it functioning well. One needs to get a qualified technician to inspect the machine ones in a while to make sure that no potential dangers exist. All lights should be operational and all power input systems should be functional. Failure to make sure that the appliance functions properly is risky and may result in dangerous skin and eye conditions.

Spray tanning equipment comes in various sizes to accommodate people of different weights. The height is normally a standard measure running across almost all models. Prices keep falling as more companies venture into the industry leading to competition that can only be countered through price reduction measures.
