Are You Accidentally Sabotaging Your Diet?

By Vanessa Summer

Everybody knows that the best foods we can eat are whole grains, lean meats in addition to healthy fats. These will be the food items that will give us the energy and protein we need. They keep people nutritionally healthy with minimal calories while we work hard to lose our fat at the gym. Did you already know, though, that a few of the foods you are eating that are supposed to be perfectly acceptable by dietary standards, could be keeping you from losing weight at a good pace? They could possibly be even adding calories to your body! Here are a few of the foods that may be undermining your diet efforts.

Sports Drinks may not be helping you at all. You have most likely been told that your sports drink is the fastest way to replenish your body's electrolyte levels after a workout. Many medical professionals agree, though, that if your workout is less than ninety minutes, water is a fine way to do this. Sports drinks could completely challenge your diet program because they are filled to the brim with sugar, empty calories and artificial colors and flavors. Try sipping some chocolate milk instead. The sugar in the chocolate will help your muscles start to mend and the calcium in milk keeps your bones strong.

Protein Shakes are certainly not a person's friend. So many people assume that consuming a protein shake is a good way to halt cravings when it isn't meal time. What you're actually doing, particularly if the majority of your diet consists of whole and healthy foods, is helping your body overdose on protein. No matter what other folks imagine, protein is not kept in the muscles, it is stored in your body as fat. If you've already had your daily allotment of protein that day, your body will just store the extra in your fat cells for later and that won't allow you to drop pounds or inches.

Pre-packaged deli meat isn't as useful to you as you may well think. You may possibly imagine that a sandwich made from whole wheat bread and pre-packaged lean deli meat makes for a good lunch. Actually, pre-packaged deli meat has much too many preservatives plus sodium (one portion contains about a third of the amount of sodium you should eat in a day). This is going to be particularly unsafe if you are at risk of contracting heart disease. Rather than buying pre-packaged deli meat, select some home cooked poultry or the deli meat that is newly sliced at your deli counter. Yes you are going to shell out more money for these selections but you will be healthier if you choose them.

There are all sorts of things that we assume will help us lose weight: eating a whole wheat bagel in the morning, for instance is actually a lot worse for you than a bowl of oatmeal with some cinnamon sprinkled into it for flavor. Ask a medical expert which items are the finest to eat and then follow the directions you are given. If you are careful about precisely what you take in and treat your body well, losing weight should not be that big of an issue for you!
