Brief Information About Sun Tanning

By Haywood Hunter

Men and women both enjoy sun tanning. During the winter months people flock to the tropics in order to spend time on the beach working on their tans. Here are a few tips on sun tanning to help you get the most out of the sun without damaging your skin.

The most important thing to remember while sun tanning is to not allow your skin to burn. A sun burn damages the skin and can result in skin cancer or skin that ages prematurely. The main reason people enjoy having a tan is for the healthy look their skin has so do not undo that effect by allowing your skin to burn.

The amount of time spent sun tanning should be spread out over several days. Never spend more than two hours at one time in the sun. It is best to start with fifteen minutes then increase time spent sun tanning slowly. If you are in a hurry or the weather is too overcast, there are tanning spa's you can try.

Before applying any sun tanning products to your skin, exfoliate first with a loofah. This can help your skin hold the tan longer by getting rid of all the dead skin cells first. Also use moisturizer after being in the sun to keep your skin and tan looking supple and beautiful.

It is highly recommended to always use a sun tanning lotion with an SPF of at least fifteen. Apply it thirty minutes before going outside to allow it to absorb into the skin. Be sure to reapply after being in the water or after activities that cause you to sweat.

When outside sun tanning, do not forget about your lips, eyelids, and the bottom of your feet. You may not want to tan them but you do need to cover them in order to protect them from getting sunburn. Also drink lots of water to stay hydrated.
